Makeup Artist Dress

I was perusing good ole  Modcloth today during my I-have-stuff-to-do-but-it-can-wait-til-tomorrow-even-though-ill-be-pissed-at-myself time.

And if you all haven't visited Modcloth, do!  I'm obsessed.  They put new clothes up daily so it's a constant and effective procrastination tool.

Today I saw a dress.  It was a beautiful dress.  A Herve Leger-esque dress.  A "Makeup Artist Dress".


 The description of the Makeup Artist Dress made me almost want to buy it; I began to picture myself as the girl in the description, all famous and jet-setter-y.  I would be laughing and saying, "Oh, this old thing?" to all the people that would compliment me.  I would do every client's makeup flawlessly as I pranced around the globe making others feel beautiful while working The Makeup Artist Dress effortlessly.


Apparently during this aspirational daydream I completely disregarded the fact that I am 5'10 and have large hips that would not cooperate with the length nor style of this dress.

But nonetheless, how adorable is this description:

All you need:


Mascara- Like Buxom Buxom Lash Mascara (can't get enough of this stuff!  Definitely my new favorite.)


Eyelash Curler- like from Tarte


Angled Eyeshadow Brush- like from Bare Escentuals


Eyeliner Brush- like from Eco Tools


Shimmery ivory shadow- like Almay Pure Blends Eyeshadow in Ivory 


Purple Shadow- like Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Psychedelic Sister


Plum Shadow- like L'Oreal Wear Infinite Eyeshadow single in 510 Plum Royale








1. Curl and mascaraify your lashes

2. Apply the shimmery ivory shadow from lash line to crease

3. Apply the purple shadow along the crease of your eyelid

4. Then, work the plum into the outer corners of your crease.

5. Use the same plum shadow on your lower lash line, working from the outer corner inward and making the liner thinner as you go (I'm not using a liner brush in this photo because I lent it to someone, but an angled eyeshadow brush can work too if you're feeling up to a little challenge).

6. Use the ivory shadow on your browbone.

Enjoy this weekend, whatever celebrations you may have planned, and
eat lots of chocolate and peeps from the microwave.

Have I ever introduced you all to Oscar?

Everyone, Oscar.  Oscar, everyone.

He is my little 5x3 green oasis in the middle of my poorly lit dorm room.

I sprawl out and bask in his fluffy shaggy goodness when I'm feeling the need of his support.

Today, I had no homework.  That's as rare as finding as the Willy Wonka golden ticket or something!

So, I was thinking yeah I'll do a blog post...Oscar hit me with some inspiration!

And as I sat there on him I saw my blue brocade skirt popping out from my friggen over flowing stuffed dresser (see right of picture above).

And boom!  Makeup inspiration.

I love how the brocade skirt has an opalescent quality to it, as the coloring of the skirt shifts from a midnight blue to a lighter blue depending on the lighting.  So I got to thinking, why don't I show that gradation with some eyeshadow...


All You Need:


Mascara- I used Laura Mercier Full Blown Lash Building Mascara.  


Eyelash Curler- Tarte...but you guys already knew that one.


Eye Brushes- I used an eyeliner brush and a flat tip brush from Ecotools.


Silver shadow- like L'Oreal Infinite Single Eyeshadow, Pure or Sephora Colorful Mono Shadow in Made in Manhattan 55 (on sale for $6-hollah!)


Black Shadow- In Sephora Collection Colorful Mono Shadow in Must Have 06


Dark Blue Shadow- Like L'Oreal HiP Shocking Shadow Pigments in Striving


Light Blue Shadow- Maybelline Expertwear Eyeshadow Singles in Blue Blazes


1. Curl and mascara the lashies.

2. Next, apply the light blue shadow with your flat tip brush from lash line to crease.

3.  Apply the dark blue shadow starting at the inner corner of your eye and gradually fade it out into the lighter color (about halfway across your lid)

4. Next, take your liner brush and dampen it with some water.  Then, dip the brush in the darker blue shadow and line your lower lashes from the outer corner, and fade it into the inner corner.

5. Take your silver shadow and apply it to the outer corner of your eyelids, blending it out towards your temples.

6. Take the black shadow and apply it to the inner corners of your eyes, blending it into the darker blue.

 Wah pow!

Bronze Peepers!

"You just have to trust."
"It's not that I don't trust...it's just that..."

This is how the conversation began the first time I ever tried to do Maggie's makeup.

Which, after a lot of convincing that I would indeed not pinch her eyelids with an eyelash curler, this was the end result:

But now!

I've transformed her into a makeup lovin fool. 

Our Prom, dates, photo shoots, graduation-all happened while sporting the bronze eye.  It has become the definitive makeup look of our friendship.


Do any other friendships have a definitive makeup look? I mean I really don't know but it is what it is.


  The bronze eye is really wearable and a nice alternative to a gray or black smokey now that the weather is getting warmer!  (Well it really isn't getting warmer, I'm just delusional about it)

All you Need:

Mascara- like Bare Escentuals Buxom

Eyelash Curler- Tarte all the way

Eyeliner Brush- like this one from Sonia Kashuk

Eyeshadow Brush- like this one from Sonia Kashuk

Brown eyeshadow- Maybelline Expertwear Eyeshadow in Made for Mocha

Bronze eyeshadow- On Maggie I used this dual ended Lock and Roll Tarte bronze eyeshadow, but you could also use Almay Bright Eyes in Trio for Browns

Highlighter/bone colored shadow- Maybelline Experwear Eyeshadow in Vanilla

Lid primer- Bare Escentuals Prime Time Eyelid Primer lets your shadow cling to your eyelid like a champ

1. Apply the primer and allow it to dry for a minute.  You don't want any creasies!

2. Curl your eyelashes and apply one thin coat of mascara.

3. Apply the bronze shadow from your lashline to your crease.
(with the Tarte lock and roll I used the cream based end)

4. Work the brown shadow into your crease line with your eyeshadow brush.

 

5. With your eyeshadow brush, blend the brown shadow in your crease outward ever so slightly toward your temple.  

6. Next, wet your eyeliner brush with a dash o water, and dip it into your brown eyeshadow.  Work this liner into your lower lash line. 


Can I just take the time to say right now that I love to wet eyeshadow?  You can turn a shadow into a richer colored liner in a snap just by dampening your eyeshadow brush.

7.  Apply the bone colored eyeshadow on the brow bone and inner corners of the eyes.  

8. Add one last coat of mascara and 

Voila!  Gorgieeee.

Dementors

Are you are familiar with the Harry Potter books?

If so, are you familiar with Dementors (I believe they make a grand entrance circa 3rd book)?

A person in a dementor costume-ha!  Makes them seem a touch more lovable.

I've come to the conclusion: these soul sucking cloaked weirdos exist.

In the form of college libraries.

I just cannot do work in my room today.  There is something about seeing my bed that makes me want to lay in it, and something about my George Harrison drinking glass that makes me want to wikipedia every Beatles song-both not conducive to writing an essay on Spinoza.  

So, I have decided to physically remove myself from the situation and in a bout of desperation, find myself in the library for the first time this year. 

Eeeet!

The awful lighting (can't you tell from the picture above?!) and the eerie silence and the bouncy trouncy couches bug me, but at least I stay (kind of) focused.

In the midst staying (kind of) focused,my Tarte lip stain found it's way out of my bag.

It's great for moisturizing lips that are dry from all this mouthy breathing I am doing because the dude near me is chomping on a salad with ranch dressing that smells like glue.

Phone screens make for handy mirrors!
