Drugstore Favorites Part 1

I have come to a realization:  Not everyone loves makeup as much as me.
I'm sure some of you would rather rub a cherry popsicle across your lips than buy a $25 lipstick.
And I don't blame you, popsicle-lipstick-wearer.  There's a lot of things I wouldn't want to spend a ton of money on either.
And why should good makeup have to be expensive?  Expressing the look you want shouldn't be a luxury.
So, I've compiled my own personal beauty awards for my favorite products in the drugstore world.

My personal award winners:

Best Liquid Foundation:

Maybelline Mineral Power Natural Perfecting Liquid Foundation

Why? Great coverage, blends easily, doesn't feel heavy, 16 shades to choose from, and it's mineral based!  So its better for your skin.

Best Powder Foundation:

Mineral Wear Talc Free Mineral Illuminating Powder Duo

Why? There's two different shades of powder in one...so as your skin tone changes with the seasons (or the amount of fake tanner you apply) you can adjust the mixture to match your color.  And, it has SPF 16!

Best Waterproof Mascara:

Covergirl Lashblast Volume Blasting Waterproof Mascara

Why? The brush on this mascara is awesome!  It provides great lash separation, and since it's waterproof,  it will hold a curl and withstand tears or a water gun fight.

Best Lengthening and Volumizing Mascara

Maybelline XXL Pro Extensions Washables

Why?  The base gives your lashes a coating to make your lashes look lush and lengthen them.  Then the mascara gives you additional length and volume. Poifect!

Best Liner

Revlon Colorstay Eyeliner

Why? This liner is "mmm, creamy" (I hope you all caught the Old Greg reference there). It's super blendable, and it's rich in pigment.  Everything I love in a liner!

Best Liquid Liner

Wet 'N' Wild MegaLiner Liquid Eyeliner

Why? It's the best liquid liner I've ever tried, and for the price, you should buy one in every color!  Won't come off until you use makeup remover.  The felt tip is also great for applying a line as thick or as thin as you'd like.

More drugstore favorites to come soon!

Shine Bright, Shine far

Does anyone remember that movie Life Size that showed on Disney Channel like 10 years ago?
Tyra Banks and a pre-pubescent Lindsay Lohan starred in it, as well as a man that somewhat resembled a leprechaun.
Anyway, the part of the movie that I still think about every once in a while is the song at the end.
It is so cheesy but it will be stuck in your head.

And you may not admit it, but you will kind of enjoy it.

Click here to watch Tyra Banks and Lindsay Lohan sing and dance like fools.

When this movie came out, I was obsessed with glitter.  And the fact that my mother wouldn't let me wear it made we want to wear it that much more!  So whenever I think of Eve from Life Size, I just think of glitter amongst other quintessential things in a 9 year old's life, like jelly sandals and velvet overalls (yeah, I kind of hate myself for that too.)

So, after my glitter obsession died down, I never really revisited the stuff.  It seemed to gaudy for me, I was became much more of a 'shimmer' girl.

It wasn't until recently I began to rethink how I felt about glitter.  When tastefully done (not all over your face like I used to do), it looks awesome.  Glitter liner has become a current fav of mine, and there's no better place to wear it than at this time of year to little shindigs, out on the town, to class, whatever.

All you need:

-Eyelash Curler

-Mascara

-Glitter liner (the Sephora brand and Urban Decay liners are great)

-Eyeshadow primer (optional)- it's not necessary, but it helps the glitter adhere to your lids and it won't come off as easily if you happen to rub your eyes or something.  Bare Essentuals makes a great one.

1. Curl your lashies and mascuuura them up.

2. Apply the primer gently to your eyelid.  Give it a minute or two to dry.

3. So basically, whenever I apply liner, I divide my eye into two sections (not literally, of course).  First take your brush and go from your inner corner to the middle of your eye.  Don't worry if your line isn't completely straight, it's nothing a little q-tip and makeup remover can't take care of.

Tip: Rest the arm that you're applying the liner with on a counter of something to make it easier to keep your hand steady.

4.  Now, do the same thing with the other half.

Repeat it on the other eye.

We've got to plan our day, Rodin and the Orsay

Listening to this song reminds me of when I went to go visit my sister in France while she was studying abroad a few years ago.

To say I had a great time is an understatement(except for a few instances when my sister would order everyone else's food for them and make me try to order with my terrible French- the only word I know how to say is blanche).
One of the questions I asked my sister before I got on the plane was how the French did their makeup.  She advised me to bring a lot of liner.  So, that I did.  Here's a few pictures from our trip:

A bit of nostalgia for you.  To do my makeup in France, all I used was liner and a q tip (well besides the mascara and eyelash curler)!  Easy right?  An understated smokey eye that you can do in probably 2 minutes or less.

All you need:

-Mascara

-Eyelash curler

-A creamy liner (I used bare minerals big & bright eyeliner in intense black)

-a q-tip

1. Apply the liner to your bottom lash line (if you are using a creamy eyeliner- which i highly recommend because its more blendable- then you wont feel like you're tugging your eyelid off.)

2. Smudge this liner simply by sweeping it across the line you've drawn with the liner.

3. Do the same with the top lid, it's okay if you don't get the liner exactly flush with your upper lash line, the q-tip takes care of that.

So, this is what your eyes will kind of look like.  Nothing wrong with a bold line of black liner, but...

4. Blending with a q-tip gives your eyes a much softer look.

the finished producto!

If you feel like it, you can slick on a little lipgloss- I used bare minerals 100% natural lipgloss in sugared strawberry- its a goldish pink color.
